Bringing it all together
Our Honest Review of the Bernier Cabinetry Line After 12 Months of Use
If you’re planning a home remodel, cabinetry is one of the most important—and most misunderstood—investments you’ll make. Cabinets impact how your home functions every day, how refined the finished space feels, and how well everything holds up over time.
At Capozzi Design Build, we’ve spent more than a year specifying, installing, and living with the Bernier cabinetry line across kitchens, bathrooms, bars, and family rooms. This is our honest, experience-based review—what it does exceptionally well, where it fits best, and who it’s right for.
This is not a paid endorsement. It’s a field-tested evaluation.
Why our perspective on cabinetry is different
Cabinetry is part of our foundation. Long before today’s design-forward kitchens became common, cabinetry was the trade that shaped how we think about construction, tolerances, and longevity.
John Capozzi owned a cabinet shop and learned the craft through his family. Growing up around a working shop meant early exposure to both framed and frameless construction—at a time when frameless cabinetry was still uncommon in the U.S. That experience matters. We understand not just how cabinets look on day one, but how they perform over time, how they should be installed, and where design ambition must be balanced with real-world durability.
That background informs every cabinet line we choose to work with.

Why we selected Bernier
Bernier is a third-generation, family-owned cabinetry manufacturer based in Quebec, Canada. Like Capozzi, they remain independently owned, hands-on, and deeply invested in craftsmanship rather than scale or brand recognition.
We work directly with the factory—not a call center or layered distribution chain. From order engineering to customer service to the shop floor, there’s a level of accountability that shows up clearly in the final product.
Bernier invests in:
- Construction quality
- Precision engineering
- Advanced finishing technology
- Fit-and-finish consistency
—not mass marketing. That alignment matters to us.
A quick primer on frameless cabinetry (not the focus, but important)
Bernier specializes in frameless cabinetry. While still less common in the U.S., frameless construction offers meaningful advantages when properly specified and installed.
In simple terms:
- Frameless cabinetry provides approximately 14% more usable storage within the same footprint
- It allows for cleaner lines and tighter reveals
- It maximizes drawer width and accessibility
This construction works exceptionally well in kitchens, bathrooms, bars, family rooms, and built-ins—especially where efficiency and visual clarity matter. It also supports transitional designs that bridge traditional and contemporary styles.
That said, frameless cabinetry comes with tighter tolerances. It demands precise planning and an experienced installation team.
Construction details that matter
Bernier’s cabinet construction stands out in a crowded market:
- 3/4″ plywood cabinet sides (now rare as a standard offering)
- Dowel-constructed cabinet boxes for long-term rigidity
- State-of-the-art finishing technology for consistency and durability
- Cabinet engineering is designed for clean, precise installation
The result is cabinetry that installs with crisp lines and maintains alignment over time.
What we’ve seen after 12 months of real-world use
After installing Bernier cabinetry across multiple project types, here’s what we’ve observed:
- Finish durability: Excellent. No unusual wear, chipping, or finish failure.
- Drawer performance: One minor drawer slide adjustment—resolved quickly.
- Door alignment: As expected with high-tolerance cabinetry, seasonal humidity can require minor hinge adjustments. This is normal and manageable.
- Callbacks: Minimal. No systemic issues.
- Biggest surprise: Attention to detail. The consistency from cabinet to cabinet—and from project to project—has been exceptional.

Honest questions homeowners ask (and our answers)
Is Bernier cabinetry worth the investment?
For the right homeowner, yes. Bernier is not a budget cabinet line. However, when compared to larger, well-known manufacturers, the construction quality, finish consistency, and overall fit-and-finish justify the investment. If budget is the primary driver, we recommend other lines instead.
Why haven’t I heard of Bernier before?
Bernier invests in product quality—not national advertising. Many recognizable cabinet brands spend heavily on marketing, while Bernier puts their resources into materials, engineering, and finishing. That’s why the name may be unfamiliar, even though the quality often surpasses better-known options.
Is frameless cabinetry risky?
Frameless cabinetry isn’t risky when it’s properly designed and installed. The tighter tolerances require a skilled team that understands layout, leveling, and seasonal movement. When specified and installed correctly, frameless cabinetry performs exceptionally well and maximizes usable space.
Why does Capozzi offer multiple cabinet lines?
Because homeowners value different things. Some prioritize flexibility, some aesthetics, some budget control, and others long-term performance. We’ve researched each line we offer carefully, and while not every line would earn an “A” in every category, each has a clear place in the market. Our role is to explain the tradeoffs honestly so you can choose with confidence.
Where Bernier excels—and where it’s not the right fit
Bernier is not intended for:
- Highly traditional inset cabinetry
- Ornate, furniture-style designs
Frameless cabinetry naturally supports full overlay doors, which means you trade the most traditional look for cleaner lines, better storage, and modern functionality. Transitional-traditional to contemporary styles are where Bernier truly shines.
Installation matters—and this is where expertise counts
Frameless cabinetry leaves little room for error. Walls must be straighter. Layout must be precise. Installation must be deliberate.
This is where Capozzi’s experience matters. Our team understands how to coordinate cabinetry with appliances, panels, lighting, and finishes—and how to plan for seasonal movement so the cabinetry continues to perform as intended.
Our final assessment
After 12 months of real-world use, Bernier earns an A+ for value, construction quality, and fit-and-finish.
It’s not a household name—and that’s intentional. Bernier puts their investment into the product itself, not advertising. For homeowners who value craftsmanship, efficiency, and long-term performance over brand recognition, it’s an exceptional choice.
Bringing it all together
Cabinetry decisions shouldn’t be driven by brand recognition alone. They should be guided by how you live, how long you plan to stay, and what level of performance matters most to you.
If you’re planning a kitchen or home remodel and want expert guidance before major decisions are made, we’re here to help.

Anne Capozzi brings experience, taste, great listening skills and innovative products to kitchen and bath design. The end result is a kitchen or bath the homeowner can delight in, knowing it will function as well as it is beautiful. The end result is more value for a given project budget.
Aubry A.
The Capozzi Design Group team is very knowledgeable and made the process of our kitchen remodel seem easy. Anne understood exactly what we wanted and made suggestions about materials and design that exceeded our expectations. She gave us choices from among what she knew as the best options, which made the decisions easier. Anne is very patient, helpful, and friendly. Our contractors recommended her, and I believe she made it easier for them, also, since she had laid out for them exactly what needed to be done. We are extremely happy with the results. I am convinced that, without Anne and Kevin’s expertise, the process would have been much more stressful, difficult, and much less satisfying.

The Cappozzi Design Build team is wonderful to work with! Anne helped me make design decisions from start to finish. Questions were answered in a timely fashion, and my kitchen is not only beautiful, but very functional and a joy to cook and entertain in. The CDB team was also a delight to have in my home working for the several months it took to complete the renovation. I would definitely recommend them for remodeling projects!
